A production just isn't right if the actors aren't dressed properly. (Can you imagine My Fair Lady without the grand apparel?) The costume crew makes sure that everyone looks perfect!
The costume crew is responsible for the following:
Reading the script and talking with the director to decide what costumes are needed for the show
Developing a costume plot, if one is not available
Learning the time period of the production, the cast members’ physical size and movement requirements, and the colors to be used on stage
Attending a rehearsal during the first week of production to measure the cast for their costumes
Coordinating the costume deadline date with the director
Learning and staying within the costume budget
Finding rental costumes when necessary
Returning all rental costumes in good condition and according to the rental agency’s requirements
Keeping all accessories and costumes in good repair, laundered and pressed, and ready for each night’s performance or dress rehearsal
Attending set strike and returning all costumes and accessories to the storage area, the rental agency, or to the proper owners
